NAGASAKI Bekko (Tortoiseshell Crafts)
Nagasaki
Nagasaki Bekko is a brand of traditional crafts that were created in the cities of Nagasaki and Isahaya, Nagasaki Prefecture, starting in the Edo era. They’re characterized by the delicate, refined artisan technique required to painstakingly adjust the thickness and color of each piece by hand. Nagasaki Bekko includes small daily items such as hair clips, but it’s also used to create large items such as decorative Japanese treasure ships.
