MIKAWACHI Yaki (Porcelain) yaki Pottery Exhibition by Takamitsu Imamura

The tradition of white porcelain making in Mikawachi has continued under the name Renkin since the time of Imamura Yajibei, also known as Joen, who is worshipped as the founder of pottery. The current head of the family, Imamura Takamitsu, is the 14th generation descendant of that family.

Classical landscapes, lions, and dragons are depicted with skillful brushwork and delicate lines. Whale motifs, unique to Nagasaki's culture where whale-related traditions are deeply ingrained, are also featured. And the "Okiage" technique, recreated for the first time in several decades, is also present.
While preserving the tradition of MIKAWACHI Yaki (Porcelain), they are also creating unique pieces that are instantly recognizable.
