MIKAWACHI Yaki (Porcelain) yaki Pottery Exhibition by Takamitsu Imamura
The tradition of white porcelain making in Mikawachi has continued under the name Renkin since the time of Imamura Yajibei, also known as Joen, who is worshipped as the founder of pottery. The current head of the family, Imamura Takamitsu, is the 14th generation descendant of that family.
Using skillful brushwork and delicate lines, the artist has created classical landscapes, lions, and dragons. The whale motif is unique to Nagasaki, a region where whale culture is deeply intertwined with the local landscape. While preserving the traditions of Mikawachi ware, the artist is also creating distinctive pieces that are instantly recognizable.
